Bowing Techniques
The foundational bow stroke. Each note gets a smooth, separate bow stroke alternating down-bow and up-bow without gaps or accents between notes. The bow stays in contact with the string throughout. Most orchestral playing uses detache as its default stroke.

A rhythmic oscillation of pitch used to enrich tone and add expression. Generated by three mechanisms: arm vibrato driven by the forearm, wrist vibrato driven by a pivoting wrist, and finger vibrato driven by the finger joints alone. Wider and slower vibrato sounds more relaxed; narrower and faster sounds more intense.
